Ebooks
An e-book (short for electronic book,or the name EBook), also known as a digital book, is an e-text that forms the digital medias equivalent of a conventional printed book, sometimes restricted with a digital rights management system. An E-book, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, is "an electronic version of a published book which can be read on a equipped computer or hand-held device designed for this purpose". E-books are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices but can also be read on some PCs depending on the format it is sold in.

There are a variety of e-book digital formats used to create and publish e-books online. A writer or publisher has many options when it comes to choosing a format for output, production, and sale. Every format has its proponents and pluses, and long debates over which format is best can become intense.
* Availability - There are over 2+ million free books available for download as of August 2009. Portable mobile availability of e-books may be provided for users with a mobile data wifi or wire connection, so that these e-books need not be stored on the device full-time. An e-book can be offered and updated indefinitely, without ever going "out of print" or "out of stock".
* Portability and Easy Storage- In the space that a comparably sized print book takes up, an e-reader can potentially contain many thousands of e-books, limited only by its loaded memory capacity. If physical space is at a premium, such as in a backpack, car, bike rack, or at home, it can be an advantage that an e-book collection takes up very little room.
* Language Accessibility- E-book online websites can include the ability to translate books into many different popular languages, making the works available to speakers of languages not covered by current printed translations.
* E-Reader Attributes- Depending on the device, an e-book may be readable in very low light, back lighting, and glare lighting, or even total darkness. Many newer readers have the ability to display motion, enlarge or change font sizes and symbols, use Text-to-speech audio software to read the text, search for key glossary terms and patterns, or allow highlighting and annotation. Devices that utilize the new E Ink can imitate the look of a printed work while consuming very little power, allowing continuous on-off reading for one or two weeks at at time.
* Costs- While an e-book reader itself costs much more than one book, the electronic texts are generally way cheaper due to not have to keep large inventories on hand, shipping, and no taxes on digital sales. Moreover, a great share of books are now available free of charge. For example, all fiction works from before the year 1900 is in the public domain. E-books can be printed for less than the price of traditional new books using new on-demand book printers, since you can select what you want to print.
* Security- Depending on possible digital rights management, e-books can be backed-up to recover them from your account where you bought it. In the case of loss it may be possible to recover a new copy without cost from the distributor since you own download rights for it.
* Distribution- Compared to paper printed publishing, it is way cheaper and easier for authors to self-publish the new e-books. Also, the posting and dispersal of a free e-book copy can stimulate the sales of the printed version(s). An e-book can be purchased, updated, downloaded, and used immediately, whereas when one buys a published book one has to go to a bookstore, or wait for a release to the store and delivery.
* Environmental Concerns- The production of e-books does not consume valuable paper, ink, etc. Printed books use 3 times more raw materials and many times more water. There are no toxic output that you get from a pulp mill.
